Sunderland Thirds picked up a third straight win, and moved off the bottom of Division 4 , beating fellow strugglers Scotezzi 3-2.
The hosts named their strongest five for the first time this season, while the visitors were only missing the injured Simon Heath, calling up Steve Lane to play fifth string in his place.
It was a strong start for the Tynemouth based side, as Chris Beldon showed his strong racket skills to score a 3-0 victory over Lane.
The tie was quickly levelled, in unfortunate circumstances. Stu Bell had taken a 1-0 lead over Alasdair Campbell when he was forced to retire with a knee injury.
However, Scotezzi were back in the box seat when Kevin Jackson earned a 3-1 victory over Martin Baxter. Both players showed some high quality shots, in particular to the front of the court.
The tie was back in the balance as Ben Sims pulled back a 3-1 win in a tight game with Jeremy French. Both players got through a lot of retrieving and this tight affair could have gone either way.
Matthew Edmundson then sealed the victory for the Wearsiders with a 3-1 win over Alan Love. In his second match of the season Edmundson produced a composed performance to seal a key win for his side, as they look to avoid relegation.
Next up Sunderland welcome Eldon Leisure Seconds, while Scotezzi travel to Chester-le-Street to face their Thirds.
